Worthy Bloggy Pursuits
I started blogging in the Spring of 2005. Although it was not that long ago the blogosphere was different then. With fewer bloggers it was easier to make yourself know and much easier to keep up with the blogs you liked to read.
Now just a few short years later the ’sphere has grown exponentially. If I subscribed to every single blog I enjoyed reading I presume that FeedDemon - my current feedreader of choice - would most likely explode… exponentially. For the blogger that is just starting out they may have to get used to receiving few if any comments. Now mind you, this often has little to do with the blogger’s writing abilities and more to do with the fact that the blogosphere is simply saturated with writing talent.
So what happens if a blogger manages to break through and make a name for him or herself in the blogosphere? Well, every one responds differently to their new bloggy fame. While some bloggers are content to make a good living from their blogs, others are choosing to use their super bloggy powers to bring attention to a cause or need.
Case in point, there is a group of 16 bloggers who will be traveling with Compassion International to Uganda, Africa from February 10th -18th. Of the 16 bloggers, 4 of them - Randy, Chris, Boomama, and Shannon - are members of the Family-Friendly Blogroll. In my opinion when bloggers, who are widely read and therefore (usually) esteemed, choose to use their popularity to bring attention and in turn help to a situation as dire as that of the children in Uganda, well as someone with much better hair than I once said, “That’s a good thing.”
So what about you, what plight will you help shine a spotlight on when you become bloggy royalty?
