And the Oscar for Biggest Ninny goes to…

Hollywood! (insert wild uproarious applause here)

Yes, ladies and gentleman, another Oscar night has come and gone. I am not a big fan of the Academy Awards, nor do I usually make a point of watching. Listening to some botoxed Barbie doll ask, “So, who are you wearing?” over and over makes my skin crawl just a little bit.

This particular Academy Awards Night was different. My oldest girls were all a-twitter over the Disney movie, Enchanted. They are big Broadway fans and two of their favorite Broadway stars were in the movie and three of the movie’s songs were nominated for Best Song. Also, two Broadway stars they love were performing the songs on the show. So, the night was highly anticipated and, I begrudgingly admit that I watched some of it. No one can last three hours on that stuff, but I did stick around for the Enchanted performances and a few of the awards.

Unfortunately, the beautiful songs were trumped by a dark, four note range song sung with angst and mumbles. How could such a lame song win over the Disney songs? I might be a little prejudiced, but I like the happy sweet songs of Enchanted far better than the winning song. Anyone who didn’t vote “Happy Working Song” as Best Song has never attempted to motivate their six year old to pick up a gazillion Lite-Brite beads before dinner. I’m just saying.

I’ve noticed something about Hollywood. They are, as a general rule, not family friendly. I know I’m preaching to the choir here. I’ll admit that I’ve not seen any of the movies that won any of the awards… except Ratatouille. From the clips I saw, most of the ‘award winning performances’ were akin to killing sprees or scandalous romps.

Hollywood, you need to get your act together. If nothing else, car chases, teen angst, immorality and high body counts are getting a little boring. Could we have something else, please?

And since I’m sure you’re dying to know, I’m wearing J. C. Penney. From the rack.

  1. The Oscars are over? Was it this past weekend? LOL We are so “off the grid” for mainstream media anymore…just for the reasons you list above! You go girl! Ya ever think to emailing this off to the major studios? *wink*

  2. I haven’t watched the Oscars in years. I could not agree more. Movies, designers, winners, losers. WHO CARES!?

But because you’re asking I’m currently wearing pants that say some Tommy guy’s name on them but that’s only because I couldn’t get the label off without ruining the jeans. ;-)

  3. I didn’t have a clue they were airing, either! I’m certainly not heart-broken as I’ve never watched them and I’m nearly 50 years old.
