Blogstyle? Yeah, you got it!
A while back Kelli of Living in Grace, asked me to do a critique of her blog. To be honest, I put it aside for a time when busyness had gotten the best of me. When time is of the essence it’s always good to have a blog as pretty and easy to critique as this one.
Think about it, correct me if I’m wrong but it looks like she had her blog design done by Everyday Mommy… you can’t go wrong with that choice. Secondly, she doesn’t crowd her sidebars with all kinds of blinking or colorful stuff that takes the focus away from her posts. Third, she doesn’t fill her blog with ads. Now let me clarify that last one.
There are ways of adding ads to your blog that don’t jump off the page and scream - PLEASE VISIT ME OFTEN SO I CAN MAKE MONEY ON YOU! And then there are bloggers who want so desperately to make money from their blog that they actually lose readers because of all of the money making opportunities they’ve signed up for and filled their blog with to boot.
Here’s a suggestion to those who would like to make some cash blogging:
Pick no more than one or two opportunities to join and try them out. If you don’t make money from them, join another but remove one of the first from your blog. You can continue to join and test different options but don’t just keep adding without purging too. It makes no sense to be advertising for someone and not receiving some compensation. This is probably the case with many Google Adsense users. They’re advertising, with little to no compensation, for a company that already dominates the Internet!
Now back to Kelli.
I have only one suggestion for Kelli to improve her reader’s overall experience.
Get better soon so you can start posting again regularly!

I love Kelli’s blog. And the only piece of advice you gave her is exactly the same one I’d give her. We need her to get better soon.
Thanks for the perspective on ads. I’d like to put some on my site but don’t want the clutter.
