Let’s take it from the top
I’ve tried starting near the end and even in the middle, neither works all that well. So I’ll start at the beginning and tell you what we’re all about here and how best to use us to promote your blog. Yes, I said use us. We want you to, really.
BloggedIn-nn.com is the official publication of the Family-Friendly Blogs Network. The network started with just a blogroll back in 2006, I believe. From there we’ve added a custom search engine, an RSS feed, a directory and finally the publication.
Being on a blgoroll was all the rage a few years ago but as they grew to enormous sizes, my own personal opinion is, they became more of a sidebar nuisance. Just too big to be useful for anything other than gaining links in search engines. And then Technorati came along and changed the way links were counted altogether. So someone who ranked high in the ecosystem could still be a nobody in Technorati. No big deal unless Technorati managed to capture the blogging public’s attention. Which they quickly did. Now the links that have become really important are those that people give you in their posts, directories and static web pages. You want websites linking to you, people.
So the directory and BloggedIn-nn.com were born. We’re here to give you links. We’re here to bring notice to the blogs that choose to remain family-friendly while still being quite engaging. We’re here to promote the better side of the Internet.
And here’s what you have to do to make that happen -
First, you have to join the network. Simply put, to join the network you need to commit to maintaining a family-friendly blog and then submit your blog for approval in our directory. Your blog must be free from foul language and sexual content. I used to say “sexually explicit” content but I think I have to revise it because we don’t all agree on what that statement means. I’ve actually been surprised at some of the blog content of people who claim to be family-friendly. We want to be the place where people far and wide come to find articles that make family life better in some way shape or form. Laughter, teachings, experiences, advise, and opinions can help us all.
Once you are in the network you have opened yourself up to a world of promotion. The directory alone has ways of promoting your blog. Visit the directory and you’ll see a blog highlighted in the furthest right sidebar. You can “boost” your own blog by clicking the link below it and typing in your blog’s ID#. You can find your ID# by clicking on the Details link in your blog’s listing.
You can comment on blogs, vote for blogs (even your own) and visit blogs through the directory. Did you know you can even read people’s blogs by clicking on Details and then clicking on the RSS Feed tab. Here’s an example: 4tunate. Not everyone filled in their feed information when signing up so they may want to go back and add it.
You should also feel free to send in a post for us to Highlight. You may be contacted for us to interview. You can write a post for our Awareness Column. And there are additional ways currently in the works.
Now that you’ve joined the network, you may want to join the RSS network feed. Great! Come back next week and I’ll tell you all about it.

Thanks so much for this post. I honestly did not know this existed. I’m even on the FF blogroll *blushes*
I went and added my info. Very quick and easy.
Thanks again!
I’ll SOOOO be back next week — that’s the topic of interest for me… just remember all my technical handicaps, and speak s-l-o-w-l-y! Oh, and L-O-U-D-L-Y! I may understand it better that way!
